The Center for Information Networking was established as part of Nihon University's 100th year anniversary project. It was established in October of 1994 in Tokorozawa, Saitama Prefecture as a network base in this era of advancing academic information. It is located adjacent to the Tokorozawa College of Art campus.

From the very opening of the establishment live programs were being transmitted using the new satellite communication system NU-SAT. In 1996 the Center opened Nihon University's official homepage. In April of 1998 the interactive distance learning program was started using satellite and television conferences as a way of bringing students from many different campuses to learn together in a single mutual classroom. It is currently linking together the six colleges of Humanities and Sciences, Commerce, Art, International Relations, Industrial Technology, and Engineering.

Also in 1998 the Center for Information Networking started the online book database service and the NU-SAT programs access video-on-demand service (VOD). The online journal article service began in 1999.

In October of 2001 the Center for Information Networking set up an exhibition of valuable books entitled “The Beauty of Japan through Books - the Culture of Transcription and Printing” displaying 120 rare volumes in Nihon University's meeting hall auditorium. In 2002 the critical network connecting each of the colleges and schools was reconstructed and now runs at an even 10Mbps. The reconstruction of the NU-SAT audiovisual system (NU TV) also took place the same year.

The Center for Information Networking supports the research and educational activities of Nihon University in a highly computerized society through the union of the research department, ever advancing toward the technological era through various research projects, and the business department, constantly developing all different kinds of information services.
