The Junior College’s Department of Bioresource Science is located within the same campus as the College of Bioresource Sciences. Known as the “Green Campus,” the Shonan Campus lies surrounded by verdure including an affiliated farm, and provides all necessary facilities for study, as well as for sports activity and recreation.
The Junior College course is 2 year program, but graduates who want to continue to study have the opportunity to transfer into the 2nd or 3rd year of the various courses at the College of Bioresource Sciences (except veterinary medicine) in an average year, about 60% of our graduates take this opportunity as well as to the Colleges of Economics, Science and Technology, Industrial Technology, etc.
As an educational field that thinks about the sustained production and use of bioresources, the preservation and restoration of the global environment, and the origins and mechanism of life, the curriculum of the Department of Bioresource Science offers courses in resource production science, life science, environmental science, and resource use science, as well as incidental courses. As the department’s educational system, many optional courses are available, so after completing basic courses, students can freely take special courses in accordance with their future plans. For this purpose, Seminar I and Seminar II are compulsory for first-year students and second-year students, respectively. Furthermore, the department offers an introduction to field science course and a practical field science course so that students can learn about bioresource science experientially.
On the basis of these special features, the Department of Bioresource Science aims to foster people who can be active in positions related to the development, production, and processing of bioresources, which will be essential for the building of an affluent and sustainable society, or to the life that makes them possible or environment surrounding them.
