The primary aim of the Graduate School of Dentistry at Matsudo is to nurture the next generation of dental researchers to enable them to develop new EBM-based dental practices and further advance the field, and to provide them with both specialist expertise and broad scientific discernment. For this reason, we offer our students both highly trained instructors and a top-level research environment.
At this Graduate School we are convinced that the most important thing is the research environment ミhighly experienced instructors for a broad range of research, and the equipment, supplies, funds and extensive facilities necessary for cutting-edge research. Our early research results thanks to grants from the Nihon University Research Fund and the Suzuki Research Fund were widely recognized, and thanks to several grants from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology we have been able to invest several hundred million yen in new equipment and supplies to take our level of research even further. In 1998 and 2001, respectively, our research projects “Explication of oral function development and support structures with aging” and “Reconstruction of oral functions using advanced dental materials and techniques” were selected as Academic Frontier Promotion Projects and awarded research funds of 1 billion yen from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and from Nihon University. Thanks to these generous subsidies, our first-class researchers and our extensive facilities, we are able to pursue extremely high-level research both day and night. Our research spans over a wide range of topics, but in recent years projects fusing research in basic dentistry with clinical dentistry have been on the increase.
Students are encouraged to present their research findings through exchange programs with universities in Japan and abroad, and by participating in international conferences. Every year, many of our graduate students present highly appreciated research papers at domestic and international specialist conferences, that later get published in first-rate journals. This is made possible through a system of scholarships and grants for free tuition for foreign students, and for participation in conferences in Japan and abroad, etc. We also have close links with many universities abroad, and greatly support international academic exchange to enable research at the highest international level. Even students from other fields than dentistry are welcome to apply to our graduate school, and we are currently in the process of setting up a system for foreign applicants to register over the Internet.
