About the Research Institute of Sports Sciences

Our goal is to contribute to the development of the coaching and sports sciences of Japan through our educational activities and research achievements. We are also going to develop human resources which have not only specialized knowledge in competition sports but also ability as reflective practitioners, who can handle a variety of issues and provide solutions through the collection and analysis of multi-faceted information.
The main activity of our institute includes posting research papers on the institute bulletin Journal of Sports Sciences. We also plan on inviting people who are very active in sports medicine and science, to hold a number of invited lectures, open lectures, symposia, and so on.

History

December 2016The Research Institute of Sports Sciences was founded.

Message from the Institute Director

Interest in sports and related fields has increased since the decision was made for Japan to host the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympic Games. As such, currently active university students have made remarkable achievements, and even undergraduate students at our department, where the institute was established, have won medals at the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympic Games. Our mission is to develop as many such students as possible, to accumulate expertise that can be widely implemented in the fields of training and coaching, and to deliver our research achievements to society.
We will devote ourselves to the development of sports not only at Nihon University but also in Japan, bearing our further purpose in mind that the Research Institute of Sports Sciences conducts multi-faceted research from a variety of fields related to sports.
