Three Policies of the Faculty of Sports Sciences

1. Diploma Policy (DP)

Based on the educational philosophy of our school, independent creativity, we award a bachelor's degree in physical education to students who achieve the following educational goals:

[DP1] The basic and comprehensive ability to conduct oneself as a reflective practitioner in the study of competitive sports.

[DP1-D] Public Culture and Education
The ability to make a positive change through participation in community based on knowledge, skills, values, and motivation.

[DP1-E] Academic Knowledge and Expertise
The ability to acquire and make use of theoretical knowledge and practical wisdom on specialized fields.

[DP2] Sensibility as an International Person of Culture

[DP2-A] An Attitude Towards Understanding the Spiritual Culture of Japan and to be Accepting of Various Values
The ability to understand the importance of interaction with people from various cultures from a global perspective, and to have positive international exchanges in order to build mutually beneficial relationships.

[DP2-B] An Attitude Towards Understanding One's OwnCharacter and Devoting Oneself to Society
The ability to respect one’s identity and to strive to make self-improvements.

[DP3] The Ability to Make Rational Judgements in Order to Better Understand Issues

[DP3-G] Recognition and Judgement of Situations
The ability to grasp situations which individuals are in and to handle them appropriately.

[DP3-H] Logical and Critical Thinking
The ability to solve issues with rational thinking while having no biases.

[DP4] The Ability to Explore and Analyze Issues and Situations Appropriately

[DP4-F] An Attitude of Inquiry and Problem Solving
The ability to collect and systematically analyze rationales in order to ask questions or identify issues, and reasonably reach answers, conclusions, or judgements, and to design, verify and implement strategies for answering open-ended questions.

[DP4-I] Comprehension and Analytical Abilities
The ability to solve problems by collecting data and efficiently selecting relevant information while using appropriate writing skills and using numerical data.

[DP5] The Ability to Pursue Possibilities and the Mindset to Challenge New Things

[DP5-J] Challenging Things Creatively and Achievement
The desire to continuosly develop competencies throughout life and to integrate existing ideas innovatively and creatively into positive results.

[DP6] Global Communicative Abilities

[DP6-K] Expressiveness and Interactiveness
The ability to give accurate expressions of one's own thoughts in writing and in speech to others in a clear and justified way.

[DP7] A Sense of Public Duty to Accept Various Values, to Overcome Any Conflicts without Bias, and to Have a Social Mindset through Coproduction to Seek Social Stability, World Peace, and Security

[DP7-C] Understanding Others, Ethics, and Public Mindedness
The ability to determine and understand positive and negative aspects ingrained in human behavior and to acquire behavioral principles as a member of society.

[DP7-L] The Ability to Connect and Collaborate with People
The ability to recognize one's position and responsibilities in a group and to strengthen the overall solidarity of the group.

[DP8] Problem clarification, hypothesis construction, hypothesis testing, problem solving and the ability to repeat this thought process continuously.

[DP8-M] Introspection
The ability to integrate knowledge with experience to improve results and states of learning, and to apply learned lessons to new and complex situations in order to solve those issues.

2. Curriculum Policy (CP)

Based on the attitude towards independent creativity, which is our educational philosophy, we have designed an interdisciplinary and integrated curriculum, which centers on coaching science while incorporating natural, medical, and social sciences. The curriculum is designed for cultivating professions in competitive sports and reflective practitioners who are able to detect potential issues and provide solutions to such issues.
This course is systematically arranged in order to allow all students to gradually construct their careers. It is also our goal to help develop human resources who can cope with complicated problems in competitive sports. To meet these objectives, we offer courses to foster better athletes as well as course in sports support. These courses entail the following:

[CP1-D1] Citizenship and Participation

The ability to make use of knowledge, skills, values, and motivation to make a positive change in communities.

[CP1-E1] Academic Knowledge and Expertise

The ability to obtain and make use of theoretical knowledge and practical wisdom in specific fields.

[CP2-A1] Global Awareness

The ability to see issues from a global perspective and to recognize the importance of cross-cultural communication.

[CP2-A2] Cross-cultural Adaptation

The ability to have cross-cultural communication with people from other nations, deepen mutual understanding, and to build mutually beneficial relationships.

[CP2-B1] Self-enlightenment

The ability to respect one’s identity and try to keep on making self-improvement.

[CP3-G1] Understanding of Situations

The ability to grasp various situations clearly and accurately and to respond to them appropriately.

[CP3-H1] Logical Thinking

The ability to cope with various issues rationally with the aid of valid reasoning.

[CP3-H2] Critical Thinking

The ability to cope with various issues rationally with the aid of logical and unbiased thinking and of fair introspection.

[CP4-F1] Inquiry and Argument

The ability to collect and systematically analyze rationales in order to ask questions or identify issues, and reasonably reach answers, conclusions, or judgments.

[CP4-F2] Problem Solving

The ability to design, verify, and implement strategies for answering open-ended issues or challenges.

[CP4-I1] Understanding, Analysis, and Interpretation

The ability to rationally extract, analyze, and understand the meaning and implication of writing expressions.

[CP4-I2] Quantitative Analysis

The ability to handle numerical data appropriately, infer quantitative problems in various contexts, and solve problems.

[CP4-I3] Information Analysis

The ability to collect and select relevant information and to analyze and process it effectively.

[CP5-J1] Foundations of Continued Learning

The ability to develop competencies through lifelong learning.

[CP5-J2] Creative Thinking

The ability to innovatively integrate currently existing ideas while taking a certain amount of risks giving rise to positive outcomes.

[CP6-K1] Writing Communication

The ability to express one’s thoughts clearly and concisely in sentences and communicate them to the reader without any uncertainty.

[CP6-K2] Oral Communication

The ability to clearly convey ideas and beliefs verbally.

[CP7-C1] Ethical Thinking and Social Awareness

The ability to understand the dichotomy between right and wrong of human behavior and to acquire behavioral principles as a member of society.

[CP7-L1] Teamwork

The ability to recognize one's position and responsibilities when solving problems in a group setting and to be able to strengthen solidarity.

[CP8-M1] Integrated and Applied Learning

The ability to integrate knowledge with experience to improve the result states of learning and to apply them to new and complex situations.

3. Admission Policy

To intensively pursue improvements in sports competitiveness in Japan, we welcome students who are willing to improve themselves by making use of the latest advances in the Sports Sciences. We also welcome students who wish to investigate and solve issues in Sports Sciences based on acquired knowledge through information collection and analysis in various practical situations.
